Yarns, Supplies & Notions

Fine Fettle Fibres specialises in British and Fair-Trade yarns in natural fibres. With many yarns hand dyed in a rich colour palette, discerning knitters will find plenty of tempting choices!

Along with the yarns and designer patterns, I have an extensive range of Addi knitting needles, my own range of bamboo needles and a selection of notions to make your knitting easier and more enjoyable.

You are welcome to come and browse the yarns and patterns in my studio when I am open. My new online shop will be coming very soon - meanwhile, some of my yarns and needles are also available online through my shop on Etsy, see below for more details.

I am a stockist of 100% British yarn from Baa Ram Ewe. I currently have Dovestone DK yarn, Titus 4 ply and Dovestone Aran. These yarns are spun and dyed in Yorkshire from 100% British wool.

Dovestone DK celebrates the beautiful locks of the Wensleydale, but combines it with another local breed, the Masham, reflecting the combined strength and softness ingrained in the Yorkshire character.

Titus is a stunning, luxurious yarn with a Yorkshire accent. It blends the beautiful long locks of the quintessential Yorkshire sheep, the Wensleydale, with the finest of all the British sheep breeds, the Bluefaced Leicester.

This luxurious aran weight yarn is available in five natural shades and is spun from a blend of Bluefaced Leicester, Wensleydale and Masham wool. Soft and cosy, it comes with its own pattern collection of winter warmers.

I have recently become a stockist of Erika Knight's yarn collection. Erika supports British manufacturing and uses sustainable natural fibres and traditional skills.

Made from 100% British Bluefaced Leicester fleece, this supremely soft, lustrous DK weight yarn is machine washable and suitable for children's clothes. Available in 18 different shades and 25g balls, it is also great for colour work.

This 100% linen yarn is made from 85% recycled rayon-linen fibre blended with 15% premium natural linen. It knits up to produce a durable, soft, lustrous and flexible fabric that will naturally soften with wear and washing. It comes in a palette of eight subtle, sophisticated colours and a range of nine classy pattern leaflets.

Vintage wool is an aran weight yarn spun with a deliberately 'old-fashioned' twist to give your project a beautiful 'homespun' look. Made from the fleece of Masham sheep, this 100% British wool is available is a range of muted shades.

Frequently Asked Questions

Lovely yarn & buttons available from the studio of Fine Fettle Fibres in Felton, Northumberland.
  • Because Manos del Uruguay yarn is hand dyed in small batches it is better to purchase the full amount for the project you wish to complete at the outset. Although the batches are not given dye lots, there is sometimes variation in the colour between batches. Any variation in colour between individual hanks within a batch can be smoothed out by knitting 2 rows from one hank and then 2 rows from another hank, running the yarn up the side of the work as you go.
  • As almost all of my yarn is sold in hanks, I am happy to offer a yarn winding service.
  • I will be happy to exchange unused hanks of yarn returned in a saleable condition in their original packaging within 6 weeks. Please note, I can't exchange yarn that has been wound from a hank into a ball. All faulty goods will be refunded or exchanged.
  • I am happy to source and order in other yarns that I do not normally stock if you need something specific for a project.
  • I'm afraid that lack of storage space means that I am unable to offer a 'put-by' service, so all yarn needs to be purchased in full up front.
  • I'm happy to help with advice about yarn suitability for a particular project. Help with knitting skills is available in my KnitClass - why not come along!
