18 May 2019 – Socks: A Toe in the Water!

10.30 – 3.30

This workshop is a chance for beginner sock knitters to get to grips with the basic techniques involved in the construction of hand knitted socks. Rather than attempting to work through a whole sock, we will be working on a mini sock that will allow us to cover the following:

  • Knitting small circumferences in the round with either DPNs or by using the magic loop method

  • Turning a heel

  • Shaping and closing a toe

The course fee includes:

  • A ball of WYS Signature 4ply sock yarn in a colour of your choice that will be sufficient for the workshop sock and for you to take away and knit a whole pair of full size socks at home

  • The mini-sock pattern

  • A pattern for full-size, simple plain socks to take away

  • Light Refreshments and a buffet lunch

You will need a set of 2.75mm double pointed needles or a long (80cm) 2.75mm circular needle, if you prefer to use the magic loop method for knitting small circumferences in the round. Needles will be available to buy on the day if you don’t have them. You will also need a tapestry needle for weaving in ends and grafting the toe.

Suitable for knitters who have the basics (knit, purl, casting on and off) but have never knitted socks
