British Breeds Mitts Kit

British Breeds Mitts Kit

This simple Fair Isle fingerless mitt uses five natural colours of 4ply single-breed yarn. Each yarn is from a different breed, many of them quite hard to track down, giving you the opportunity to try out breeds you may not have used before in a small scale project. The glove is constructed with an afterthought thumb which is explained in the pattern. Instructions are included for three sizes.

The kit contains:

  • the fully charted pattern

  • 5 mini-balls of yarn

  • a colour card giving details of the yarns and their provenance

  • an information card on each of the breeds in your kit

  • a sheep stitch marker

To make the kit you will also need:

  • 2.75mm needles – either an 80cm circular for magic loop, or a set of DPNs.

  • some scrap yarn

  • a tapestry needle for weaving in the ends.

All the kits currently contain Ryeland, Jacob and Wensleydale. They will also contain either Manx Loaghtan or Castlemilk Moorit, and one of a selection of white breeds including Galway, Norfolk Horn, Whitefaced Woodland, Hampshire Down and Kerry Hill. The kit you buy could contain any of these latter breeds.

The breed selection will continue to expand as I find other suitable sources of yarn!
