Fine Fettle Fibres Northumbrian Rose

Fine Fettle Fibres Northumbrian Rose

from 3.50

Fine Fettle Fibres very first venture into yarn production!

This luxurious 4ply yarn is a blend of 35% Northumbrian alpaca from the prize-winning herd at Old Felton Alpacas, 25% Northumbrian Bluefaced Leicester from Wark near Hexham and 40% Rose fibres. It is spun at The Border Mill in Duns before being hand-dyed in a subtle palette of eight shades by The Border Tart. This soft and silky yarn is a treat to knit with and makes gorgeous accessories including a range specially designed by Stella Ackroyd for Fine Fettle Fibres and available from her Ravelry shop.

Yarn type: 4ply
Hank weight: 50g full skeins. Also available in quarter-skeins of approximately 12 to 13g.
Yarn length: 170m
Gauge: 25 stitches x 28 rows in 10x10cm on 3.75mm needles
Composition: 35% Northumbrian Alpaca, 25% Northumbrian Bluefaced Leicester, 40% Rose fibres.

(NB the quarter-skeins include some yarn from our test spin. This is indistinguishable from the yarn from the full spin, and is dyed in the same shades by the Border Tart, but the alpaca and BFL it contains were sourced from alternative suppliers. This was done so that we could save as much of our limited quantity of Northumbrian fleece for the ‘real thing’!)

Care: Hand wash in lukewarm water. Dry flat out of direct sunlight.

This limited edition yarn is a collaboration. It shows what woolly professionals can create when we pull together to produce something that could not have been achieved by any of us working alone.

It is a blend of fleece from Old Felton Alpacas in Northumberland and Bluefaced Leicester wool carefully selected by Fransje Sansom of Deneburn Meadows from a flock she tends at Wark near Hexham. Then for something a little different we have added rose fibres! Expertly spun by The Border Mill, the yarn has been dyed by hand by The Border Tart in eight subtle shades. With pattern support provided by local designer Stella Ackroyd, it offers the chance to create soft and lustrous accessories with real Northumbrian/Borders provenance.
