You will also need stitch markers of 2 different colours/styles, a tapestry needle, scrap yarn for holding stitches, and spare circular needles for 3 needle bind off.
Skills needed: basic stockinette stitch in the round, 1x1 rib, basic increases and decreases, three-needle bind off, and picking up stitches.
NOTES
This garment is worked entirely seamlessly, with the body worked from the bottom up in the round, split at the armholes for the front and back, joined at the shoulder seams with a 3 needle bind off, and the sleeves and neckband worked by picking up around the armholes and neckline respectively.
Reverse stocking stitch forms a lovely texture, but I (and I assume most knitters) would rather knit endlessly than purl endlessly. For this reason the whole item is worked inside out.
This pattern features exposed ‘seams’, a design feature which is worked in several different ways throughout the garment.
Photos show Size 2 worn with 9 inches of positive ease around the bust, and 4 inches of positive ease around the waist. The sleeves are designed to be slightly longer than ¾ length but not full length.
The length shown in the schematic is for a slightly cropped sweater, designed to meet the waistband of high-waisted trousers or a skirt. Instructions how to lengthen and shorten the bodice are included in the pattern.
Suitable yarns include:
Cyrano is a woollen spun yarn made from a blend of white French Mérinos d'Arles (Provence) and black Portuguese merino, raised with concern for the well-being of the animals and the value of their wool. It is the big sister of De Rerum Natura Gilliat (worsted weight) and Ulysse (sport weight).
All the manufacturing stages of this yarn are carried out in a short circuit (France and Portugal for sourcing, Belgium or Italy for washing, France for spinning and dyeing) with traceability and care to reduce its impact on the environment.
It is offered in natural colours resulting from the blend of brown and white fleeces ("sel" (salt), "poivre blanc" (white pepper), "poivre et sel" (pepper and salt) and "poivre" (pepper)), and in a range of subtly heathered and dyed in fleece colours.
ON THE NEEDLES
Its five strand composition creates a well rounded yarn with excellent stitch definition.
It is the perfect yarn for quick and satisfying projects such as hats, scarves or blankets, but also for knitting big warm cardigans that can be used as mid-season coats and children's jumpers that are particularly resistant to the vicissitudes of the playground!
RECOMMENDED CARE
This yarn is not superwash treated. We recommend washing your knitted fabric in warm water with soap or a suitable detergent. If you wish to test the wool programme of your washing machine, we advise you to do so first with your sample.
Please note that very dark or particularly saturated colours are more likely to bleed during blocking. If you plan to mix dark shades with lighter colours, we recommend that you test a sample first. If you find excess dye in the first wash, we recommend that you repeat the rinse bath until it is clear before drying your work.
