A top down, seamless sweater with a vertical structural pattern of narrow cables. A wide hem in cabled loops and a distinctive saddle shoulder that runs from the back and down the sleeves, give the design extra character and emphasises the construction.

The sweater is worked from top to bottom starting at the mid-back/neck. Once the left and right shoulders are complete, stitches are picked up for the back piece, which is worked back and forth using short rows and armhole increases to create shaping. Stitches are then picked up for the front shoulder pieces, which are worked back and forth, first with short rows and then with increases for the v-neck. The neckband is incorporated into the piece along the way. The body is then joined under the armholes and worked in the round, finishing with a wide hem of narrow cables. Stitches are picked up along the armholes and knit in down in the round, shaped with a lovely decreasing detail towards the wrist/cuff.

Hey Mama Wolf Skadi
£14.50
  • Material: 100% Merino d’Arles GOTS certified Wool

  • Yardage: 200m/100g

  • Needle: 3.5 - 4.5 mm

  • Gauge: 20 = 10 cm

  • Washing instructions: Hand Wash

Skadi is a plump 3-ply DK /Worsted weight yarn made from Merino d'Arles GOTS-certified wool—with a 21 micron count, this is the softest wool native to Europe. This rare sheep breed hails from southern France and, due to the high crimp of its fleece, yarn spun from this wool has pockets of trapped air, providing insulation and resulting in warmer garments. The wool from this breed is exceptionally fluffy, bouncy, and soft.

By spinning and dyeing this organic wool at a GOTS-certified mill in Turkey, everything is done under one roof, reducing the carbon footprint and ensuring that the wool meets high standards for quality and sustainability. GOTS certification guarantees the best for the environment, sheep, and even the people involved in the production.

Knitting with Skadi is an absolute delight. It is lofty, light and as soft as a cloud and perfect for sweaters, hats, and scarves.

De Rerum Natura Gilliatt
£15.00

Gilliatt is a woolen spun yarn made from a blend of white French Mérinos d'Arles (Provence) and black Portuguese merino (Alentejo valley) raised with concern for the well-being of the animals and the value of their wool.

All the manufacturing stages of this yarn are carried out in a short circuit (France and Portugal for sourcing, Belgium or Italy for washing, France for spinning and dyeing) with traceability and care to reduce its impact on the environment.

It is offered in natural colours resulting from the blend of brown and white fleeces ("sel" (salt), "poivre blanc" (white pepper), "poivre et sel" (pepper and salt) and "poivre" (pepper)), and in a range of subtly heathered and dyed in fleece colours.

ON THE NEEDLES

Made up of three well-twisted strands, it is a round, soft and satisfying fluffy yarn which is perfect for about everything from stocking stitch to intricate cables.

It's a yarn that easily forgives irregularities, doesn't split and stays securely on the needles, making it an excellent choice for beginners as well.

RECOMMENDED CARE

This yarn is not superwash treated. We recommend that you wash your knitted fabric in warm water with soap or a suitable detergent and leave it to dry flat, avoiding rubbing or stretching it. If you wish to test the wool programme of your washing machine, we advise you to do so first with your sample.

Please note that very dark or particularly saturated colours such as "émeraude" are more likely to bleed during blocking. If you plan to knit with lighter colours, we recommend that you test a swatch first. If you find excess dye in the first wash, we recommend that you repeat the rinse bath until it is clear before drying your work.

A little background information:

Gilliatt is named after the beautiful, stubborn and constructive hero of Victor Hugo's Travailleurs de la mer.

De Rerum Natura Albertine
£9.00

Albertine is a 4 ply, worsted spun yarn made from the fleece of Merinos d'Arles, raised on an organic farm near Aureille in Provence, France, with a touch of silk from south of Shanghai, China.

The silk gives this fine (21.5 microns) and exceptionally elastic wool a discreet satiny sheen and a very nice drape.

These very fine fibres are combed into a ribbon to increase their softness and strength, and then spun in the Biella region of Italy, as no spinning mill in France today is capable of spinning such fine combed yarn. This single strand is then twisted to create a four strand yarn, dyed in Creuse (France).

Fibre composition: 90 % organic Merinos d'Arles (France) / 10 % mulberry silk (China)
Ball size: 50g
Meterage: 218 yds (200 m) / 50 g
Gauge: 28 sts x 40 rows on 2.5 mm needles (US 1) / 26 sts x 38 rows on 3 mm needles (US 2) / 24 sts x 36 rows on 3.5 mm needles (US 4)
Care:This yarn is not superwash treated. We recommend washing your knitted fabric in warm water with soap or a suitable detergent. If you wish to test the wool programme of your machine, we advise you to do so first with your sample.

ORIGINS AND MANUFACTURE

Bérénice is a unique blend of extra-fine Angora goat fibres from South African farms committed to animal welfare and the soft, plump wool of our organic Merinos d'Arles, spun into loops around a strong, shiny silk yarn, then combed to give the desired tousled, voluminous look.

The yarn is then dyed using ecological dyes that comply with GOTS specifications to reduce its environmental impact. We manufacture this very special yarn in Italy, near Biella.
