Lucy is a drop shoulder design worked top down, both flat and in the round, with an almost all-over Andalusian stitch texture and a rounded neckline. This listing includes pdfs for both a Cardigan and Sweater version of this design.

The Andalusian stitch is broken up by panels of Stockinette stitch along the shoulder seams, neckline, and underarm.

You will begin by working the back yoke, which is shaped with increases on the right and wrong side of the work to create slanted shoulders. You will also establish the Andalusian stitch texture here.

For the Cardigan version of this pattern, you will then pick up and knit stitches to form the right and left shoulders in turn before joining the body sections together at the underarm. You will then continue to work the length of the body flat.

For the Sweater version of this pattern, you will pick up and knit the left then the right shoulder stitches and join them after the neckline shaping to form the front panel before joining to work the length of the body in the round.

The body is then finished with a split hem, but there is also the option to omit the split. I next recommend that you apply the collar and the button bands, before picking up and knitting stitches to form the sleeves which are worked in the round. The collar, cuffs, and hem are finished with 1x1 rib. There is an additional pdf containing instructions on how to modify your Lucy Cardigan/Sweater to be a vest, if so desired.

Materials and Fit

Notions: You will need 3 mm / US 2.5 (40- and 80- or-100-cm / 16- and 32- or 40-in cord) and 4 mm / US 6 (40-, 60-, and 80- or 100-cm / 40-, 24-, and 32-in cord circular needles. You will also need a darning needle and either scrap yarn, spare circular needles, or stitch holders for the resting stitches. You may find it helpful to use stitch markers to check the length of your work. If making the Lucy Cardigan/Cardigan Vest, you will also need between 6-8 20 mm buttons.

Tension: 20 stitches x 30 rows/rounds in Andalusian stitch on 4 mm / US 6 = 10 x 10 cm / 4 x 4 in.

Sizing and ease: The Lucy Cardigan has a recommended positive ease of 20–25 cm / 8– 10 in for Sizes A-H and 15-25 cm / 6-10 in for Sizes I-L around the chest (or the widest part of your torso). However, if you wanted less ease, you would be welcome to choose a smaller size relative to your chest measurement and vice versa.
