The Salty Air Tee was designed with easy breezy summer moments in mind. Simple construction, a delicate lace yoke and a style that’s easily modified to wear just the way you like it.

When knit to a cropped length, Salty Air pairs beautifully with skirts, dresses and high waisted pants. Or you can add some length to the body and style it with shorts, jeans or just about anything!

Construction

The Salty Air Tee is knit seamlessly from the top down. The neckline is cast on and short rows are worked to raise the back of the neck for a comfortable fit. The yoke lace is knit, then the body and sleeves are separated and worked from the top down.

Techniques Used In This Pattern

De Rerum Natura Alice
£8.50

Alice is a soft and sophisticated 4ply blend of Merino d’Arles and linen. The yarn is worsted spun to increase the strength and softness of the fibres and twisted into three strands to create a balanced, rounded yarn that remains supple.

With 216 m / 50 g, it is at the lighter end of 4ply and can be knitted very tightly for durable socks without synthetic material, or more loosely for sweaters and accessories that will benefit from the drape of the linen. The natural springiness of the Arles merino gives the yarn a beautiful elasticity, while the linen adds a subtle shine and a feel that is so pleasant against the skin.

It can be knitted on its own for lightweight projects, but also doubled for durable, soft jumpers, or held with a lace weight mohair yarn to play with textures and colours.

Alice yarn is spun and dyed near Biella in Italy with GOTS-certified dyes.

Fibre: 75% Merino d’Arles from Provence + 25% Linen grown in France and Belgium.
Ball weight: 50g
Meterage: 216m in 50g
Needles: 2.5 – 3.5mm

Hey Mama Wolf Mokosh
£14.50
  • Material: 100% Merino d'Arles GOTS Wool

  • Yardage: 300m/100g

  • Needle: 3-4 mm

  • Gauge: 24 = 10 cm

  • Washing instructions: Hand Wash

Mokosh is one of Hey Mama Wolf’s most popular yarns. It’s a 2-ply, sport weight yarn made from Merino d'Arles GOTS-certified wool—with a 21 micron count, this is the softest wool native to Europe. This rare sheep breed hails from southern France and, due to the high crimp of its fleece, yarn spun from this wool has pockets of trapped air, providing insulation and resulting in warmer garments. The wool from this breed is exceptionally fluffy, bouncy, and soft.

Our favorite GOTS-certified mill in Turkey then spins and dyes our exquisite organic wool, allowing us to have everything under one roof. This reduces our carbon footprint and ensures that the wool meets our high standards for quality and sustainability. GOTS certification is important to us, as it guarantees the best for the environment, sheep, and even the people involved in the production.

Mokosh is lightweight, lofty, and has a fine sheen. This makes it ideal for knitting sweaters, hats, and shawls.

De Rerum Natura Candide
£7.50

Yarn composition: 70% Organic merino d'Arles (France) and 30% recycled cotton (which can include 2% of other recycled fibres (France).

Ball weight: 50g
Meterage: 185 m (202 yards) in approx 50 g*

GAUGE (for 10 x 10 cm of st st)

26 st x 40 rows on 2.5 mm needles / US 1
24 st x 38 rows on 3 mm needles / US 2
22 sts x 34 rows on 3.5 mm needles / US 4

Please note:
The colours of Candide are obtained from a complex process that involves dyeing the wool before spinning with natural dyes. This means there may be slight variations in shade within the same production batch. Before knitting, it is recommended you check the colour consistency in the balls you have and to alternate them if necessary (as you would with hand dyed yarns).

Also, natural dyes are more fragile than synthetic dyes. These colours are likely to change over time as they soften slightly. De Rerum Natura have selected the most resistant plants and natural extracts but they advise avoiding exposing the balls or knitted garments for a long time to direct sunlight.

Lastly, the colour "grand bleu", which contains a high concentration of indigo, may bleed slightly when knitted. Indigo pigments are non-toxic and even have beneficial anti-bacterial properties. This excess dye is easily washed off with soapy water.
