Erika Knight Pure Tweed Aran
£14.90
  • Material: 100% wool from Europe and New Zealand

  • Yardage: 160m/100g

  • Needle: 5-6 mm

  • Gauge: 16 = 10 cm

  • Washing instructions: hand wash

Erika Knight Pure Tweed is a traditionally woollen-spun tweed yarn in Aran weight. Woollen spinning involves carding the fibres without combing them, which introduces plenty of air into the yarn, giving it a wonderfully airy and voluminous texture. Knitted pieces made from woollen-spun yarn are exceptionally durable and often last a lifetime. Erika Knight Pure Tweed has a soft yet sturdy feel, making it perfect for crafting long-lasting cardigans, hats, or blankets.

The colour palette is named after places and castles along the River Tweed in Scotland.

The wool used in this yarn comes from sheep in Europe and New Zealand, and the yarn is spun in Ireland, in the county Donegal. The wool softens and blooms after the first wash.

De Rerum Natura Albertine
£9.00

Albertine is a 4 ply, worsted spun yarn made from the fleece of Merinos d'Arles, raised on an organic farm near Aureille in Provence, France, with a touch of silk from south of Shanghai, China.

The silk gives this fine (21.5 microns) and exceptionally elastic wool a discreet satiny sheen and a very nice drape.

These very fine fibres are combed into a ribbon to increase their softness and strength, and then spun in the Biella region of Italy, as no spinning mill in France today is capable of spinning such fine combed yarn. This single strand is then twisted to create a four strand yarn, dyed in Creuse (France).

Fibre composition: 90 % organic Merinos d'Arles (France) / 10 % mulberry silk (China)
Ball size: 50g
Meterage: 218 yds (200 m) / 50 g
Gauge: 28 sts x 40 rows on 2.5 mm needles (US 1) / 26 sts x 38 rows on 3 mm needles (US 2) / 24 sts x 36 rows on 3.5 mm needles (US 4)
Care:This yarn is not superwash treated. We recommend washing your knitted fabric in warm water with soap or a suitable detergent. If you wish to test the wool programme of your machine, we advise you to do so first with your sample.

ORIGINS AND MANUFACTURE

Bérénice is a unique blend of extra-fine Angora goat fibres from South African farms committed to animal welfare and the soft, plump wool of our organic Merinos d'Arles, spun into loops around a strong, shiny silk yarn, then combed to give the desired tousled, voluminous look.

The yarn is then dyed using ecological dyes that comply with GOTS specifications to reduce its environmental impact. We manufacture this very special yarn in Italy, near Biella.
